Realms

By default, you can chat with everybody on pages. But sometimes you only want to chat with a subset of users on pages (ex. only schoolmates, only co-workers, club members, etc.). To do that, you can enter a "realm". While in a realm, only members of that realm can see or chat with you on pages.

Most realms are restricted to certain email addresses (ex. @yourschool.edu, @yourcompany.com). This helps improve privacy and reduce trolling.

You can still chat with users outside your realm using whispers (DMs) and group messages.

Join

To join a realm:

1. Click the Main Menu button:
2. Click the Realms menu item:
3. The realms dialog should appear.
4. Click the More Menu drop down:
5. Click Join:
6. A dialog should appear.
7. Enter the Realm ID (someone should have told you what it is).
8. If you want to enter the realm now, keep the checkbox selected.
9. Click OK.
10. If you kept the checkbox selected, you’ll see a button appear in the status bar that should look like this: (unless the realm has a custom icon). That button means you’ve joined a realm. You can click on this button anytime to access your realm options.

Enter

You can join as many realms as you want, but only enter one at a time.

To enter a realm:

1. Click the Main Menu button:
2. Click the Realms menu item:
3. The realms dialog should appear.
4. Click on the realm you want to enter.
5. Click the Enter button in the toolbar:
6. You’ll see a button appear in the status bar that should look like this: (unless the realm has a custom icon). That button means you’ve entered a realm. You can click on this button anytime to access your realm options.

Exit

To exit a realm:

1. Click the Realm button in the status bar: or some custom icon
2. The realm dialog should appear.
3. Click the Exit button:
4. The realm button should disappear from the status bar.
5. You can now chat with everybody on pages.

The realm will still be in your realms dialog and you can always reenter later.

Quit

Quitting a realm permanently removes it from your realms dialog and removes your membership.

If you quit a realm, you may need an invitation if you want to join again. But some realms allow you to auto-join for certain email addresses, and for those you won't need an re-invite.

To quit a realm:

1. Click the Main Menu button:
2. Click the Realms menu item
3. The realms dialog should appear.
4. Click on the realm you want to quit.
5. Click the More Menu options drop down:
6. Click Quit:
7. Click OK.

WARNING

Quitting a realm you created, it will delete it for everybody.

Chat

You can't send messages to everybody on a realm. Realms just affect who you chat with on pages. See Page Chat
